Romans 12:9
Love must be sincere.
Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
It's clear to me that the U.S. Constitution is a "good" thing when. . .
I look and see, and come to an understanding,
as to who and what it is that seeks to destroy it.

One of the strictest rules my father had in the house
for my brother and I was:
"Do not use the word hate towards each other or others."
"Hate is murder in God's eyes."
"You should love people, not your earthly (material) possessions."
Certainly, I knew that I didn't have to like people.
And it was easy for me not to like certain individuals
when I played them in sports.
You see, it was the competitive nature in me that wanted to beat them.
Believe me, I wanted to win.
So when my brother and I wrestled each other as young kids,
my dad would make us hug before the day was over.
Funny, sometimes that was not easy to do --
especially if he bit me, pinched me or pulled my hair.
Of course, I know my brother didn't like
some of the things that I did to him.
But we managed to hug each other. . .
because we loved each other.
And to this day, we still do.
That said, God makes it clear in the Bible
that I am to "hate what is evil."
And once I learned what evil truly is,
I understood why.
People manifest evil -- word and deed.
And love protects against it.
Sincerely,
Jonathan
